Charges laid after elderly woman attacked in the Okanagan

KELOWNA (NEWS 1130) — A Kelowna man has been charged with attempted murder after an elderly woman was found badly beaten in the Okanagan backcountry earlier this week.

The 79-year-old woman might have died if she had not been found by a man and woman on Monday night.

She’s now recovering from her injuries.

Mounties say the victim was driven from her home in West Kelowna to the remote area in her own vehicle by a suspect who was very well-known to her.

Kevin Barrett, 60, was arrested and has now been charged, but police aren’t discussing the nature of the relationship between the accused and the victim.
