Victoria daycare worker accused of sexually assaulting Vancouver woman with a knife

VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) – A man who works at a daycare in Victoria has been arrested, accused in a violent sexual assault that happened two months ago.

The alleged attack happened on March 17 in Saanich.

“At about 2 o’clock in the morning, a man broke into a townhouse that was unlocked, sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman, and then fled,” Saanich Police Sgt. Julie Fast said.

The suspect and victim didn’t know each other. Fast notes the victim is from Vancouver.

“[She had been] over here, visiting some friends and sleeping in the townhouse. It was an incredibly traumatic experience for her.”

Back in March, police said the woman was attacked at knifepoint.

The 23-year-old Saanich man was arrested this past Tuesday. He faces charges of sexual assault with a weapon, break and enter, and forcible confinement.

In a letter sent to parents, the Cridge Centre for the Family in Victoria named Jesse Doig as the man accused, noting there is no connection between the daycare and the offence other than the fact that Doig works there.

Fast confirms there is no link between the daycare and the attack.

The daycare says it hasn’t heard of any concerns from any of its staff members or families, adding “the police have conducted an extensive investigation and found no links to the care of your children.”

Parents were also apparently sent resources to help parents talk to their children about what has happened.

Fast says the suspect didn’t have a criminal record. “Not particularly known to us. A bit of an unknown, I would say.”
