RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — The Richmond Night Market kicks off tonight at 7 p.m. as hundreds flock for a cornucopia of exotic eats from king crab, to crepes, to BBQ chicken and fish balls.
Visitors can expect to see an expanded food court this year — there’s now 120 vendors with more than 600 food items from all over the world, and plenty of fun options for kids.
Raymond Cheung with the event says visitors should allow themselves plenty of time as this event always attracts large crowds.
There will be plenty of traffic, and parking can be a drag. If you get there after 7 or 8 p.m., Cheung says visitors could be waiting 30 to 45 minutes to get in.
“In past years, we have a lot of visitors, and yes we do have some (issues) where traffic will slow down during the peak hours, but we have enough traffic control to move the cars and make sure people are safe as well,” he says.
If you want to avoid the hassle, take the SkyTrain, he says.
“I do encourage everyone to take the Canada Line, because we have the Bridgeport Station just two blocks away,” Cheung says. “So anybody can park on the Vancouver side and just take the SkyTrain — in 30 seconds they will arrive at our front door.”
While he’s not sure how many people will show up this weekend, he’s expecting the warm weather will bring more people out: “I think this is perfect weather for us.”
The night market starts May 10 at 7 p.m. and runs every weekend until October 14. General admission tickets are $4.75. Children under eight-years-old and seniors over 60 get in free.
