Lotto machines back in business at B.C. bars after identical ticket glitch

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Self-serving lotto machines are back in service at B.C. bars and pubs following a system glitch that took place a month ago.

A total of 691 machines across the province had to be turned off after a person got two identical tickets at one machine on April 15. The player reported the problem to the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), noting it happened using the Quick Pick option — when the machine generates numbers for the player.

“While duplicates can and do occur we’re not aware of another player receiving duplicate Quick Pick numbers from a self-service terminal,” says Lara Gerrits with the BCLC, adding this was an isolated incident.

The BCLC says a third-party inspection of the self-serve systems showed that they are fully functional and that the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch had also certified the software’s technical integrity.

And if you are worried about this system error spoiling your chances of winning, you can rest easy, adds Gerrits.

“I want to assure lottery players that the outcome of games is based on the draw and (self-serve terminals) are completely separate from the systems used to conduct the draws themselves,” she adds.
