Anchorage police release details in fatal hit-and-run case

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage police say a pedestrian killed last week in a hit-and-run crash had lain in the street for more than an hour and been covered with a blanket by a passer-by.
Police on Wednesday identified the man killed as 36-year-old Dwayne Nelson.
Investigators interviewed the driver believed to have been involved in the fatal crash. The driver was released and no charges have been filed.
Police just after 2:30 a.m. May 8 took a call of a man lying on east Benson Boulevard, a main east-west thoroughfare in midtown Anchorage. Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say their preliminary investigation indicates that Nelson at around 1 a.m. walked into the street and fell.
They say a pedestrian placed a light-colored blanket over Nelson and kept walking.
