Get out your swimsuits: Vancouver’s outdoor pools open this weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — It’s time to get our your swimsuits, Vancouverites.

The city’s three heated seaside outdoor pools are now open, and so are concessions.

You can take a swim at Kitsilano and New Brighton Park pools now until Sept. 15, or at Second Beach in Stanley Park — open until after the Labour Day weekend. New this year, pool-goers can now get access to free wifi at the Kits and Second Beach pools.

At the concession booths, you can find new menu items including vegetarian curries and vegetarian burgers, ginger beef lettuce raps, ramen noodles, and hand-battered fish and chips.

Starting this weekend, there will also be lifeguards patrolling 11 Vancouver beaches from Victoria Day to the Labour Day weekend, from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. — and they will be there a bit longer mid-June to mid-August.

The Vancouver Park Board is reminding people to be ‘water smart,’ especially choosing to swim at supervised locations with a lifeguard on-duty.

They’re also reminding people that fires on the beach aren’t allowed, and neither are dogs. Look for a barbecue coal pit at the beach or in a picnic area.
