TORONTO (680 NEWS) – Toronto Police say they’re investigating after reports that two groups of youths were shooting fireworks at each other and into moving cars in North York on Monday night.
Const. David Hopkinson says police were called to a plaza in a neighbourhood north of downtown Toronto at around 11 p.m. on Monday night.
When officers arrived the groups had dispersed, but a video later surfaced online that appears to show part of the incident.
In the video a white car is driving out of the plaza when several people surround it. One person appears to point and fire a roman candle directly into the vehicle’s open passenger window.
The inside of the car appears to flare and the driver and a passenger fling the doors open before the group runs off laughing.
“This is obviously highly dangerous behaviour. It could cause serious, life-threatening injuries and possibly death,” says Hopkinson. “Shooting fireworks into a moving car – it’s not only an assault with a weapon, this could have caused a more serious collision.”
Hopkinson says he’s viewed the video that’s circulating online and is hoping to speak to witnesses or potential victims.
“From what I saw (in the video) this is absolutely intentional,” he adds. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
