VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — Fire crews were in a tough battle at the Regal Hotel on the Granville Strip tonight, after a fire broke out at in a third-floor suite.
Vancouver Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Wilson says it looks like hoarding was an issue here. The tenant wouldn’t even let them inside, and he had to eventually be removed.
Once inside, they were able to douse it.
“There was considerable volume inside the suite, so it was a hoarding issue,” he says. “It’s an extensive amount of combustibles inside the suite.”
The fire also causing some issues for transit riders: six bus routes were being detoured away from Granville, including: 4 to Downtown/Powell and UBC, 7 to Naniamo Station and Dunbar, 14 to Downtown and UBC, 16 to 29th Avenue and to Arbutus, 10 to Granville and Downtown, 50 to False Creek/Granville Island and to Waterfront.
