Quick-thinking mom saves her baby from hot vehicle in North Vancouver

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The quick thinking of a mother on the North Shore has helped save her baby from a hot car Monday morning.

First responders were able to rescue the baby in the parking lot of Capilano Mall after the mom accidentally locked her keys and the child inside in temperatures that were well above 20 degrees.

“As soon as she locked her car door she realized that she had left not only her keys but also her child in the car. We had to get a tow truck out to unlock the car.” North Vancouver RCMP Sgt. Peter DeVries said.

DeVries says officers were in the area responding to another call, when the woman flagged them down.

Both paramedics and fire responded to this call. DeVries adds the baby was not in distress and will be fine.

“As the weather begins to heat up as we move into summer, that is something that we do sometimes encounter where someone has either inadvertently or just out of a poorly made decision, locked either their child or most often it’s their pets,” DeVries said.
