Third family member charged in connection with Kiran Dhesi killing

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – A third member of the same family has been charged in connection with the killing of Kiran Dhesi almost two years ago.

Twenty-three-year-old Inderdeep Deo has been charged with accessory after the fact. Which, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation (IHIT), essentially means she knew about the Surrey teen’s murder and helped her brother — Dhesi’s ex-boyfriend — try to escape.

“So far, three members of the same family have been charged criminally in relation to Kiran’s murder,” said Cpl. Frank Jang with IHIT. “This certainly is an a-typical investigation. Having three members of the same family charged is something that we don’t see every day.”

Her brother Harjot Singh Deo was charged with second-degree murder more than two weeks ago. Harjot and Inderdeep’s mother, Manjit Kaur Deo, was charged the following week with accessory after the fact to murder.

The body of the Surrey student was found inside a burned out SUV along 24th Avenue near 188 Street in August, 2017. She was last seen leaving her family’s home the night before. Dhesi had received a successful kidney transplant six months before her death.

“In the ensuing months, our detectives worked tirelessly gathering evidence, following up on leads, and collecting further evidence,” Jang says.

Dhesi’s ex-boyfriend was arrested and charged on May 10. His mother’s arrest and charges against her came on May 17.

“In spite of the recent charges laid in the case the investigation still remains active and it is certainly not over,” said Jang. “We still urge those with information to please come forward and to help us shed more light on the events surrounding Kiran’s death.”

He says the case will continue to move forward, noting investigators believe there are still people out there with more information.
