VPD remind people about motorcycle safety following deadly crash

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – One day after a deadly crash on the Sea to Sky, we are getting a reminder from Vancouver Police about motorcycle safety.

Sgt. Jason Robillard says a lot of the accidents police officers see are caused by people failing to see motorcycles.

“You have to really be aware,” he adds. “Some things to look out for or to avoid is the blind spot of other vehicles travelling in other lanes, you are a little bit smaller so they may not see you, so just be aware of that.”

He adds everyone has a role to play when it comes to safety on the roads to keep drivers and motorcyclists safe.

Protective gear also plays a big role, Robillard adds, “Helmets and appropriate protective clothing, such as leather boots and there is armour that they do make for motorcycles if are to have a spill to prevent you from road rash.”

Thursday’s crash happened around 3:15 p.m. A 50-year-old man died after he lost control of his motorcycle.
