Calgary man drowns while saving girl in B.C. lake

INVERMERE – A young Calgary man is being hailed a hero after drowning while saving a girl in a lake in B.C.

The man has been identified as Jonathan Stein-Palmiere, 20, from Calgary.

Jonathan and his girlfriend were visiting from Calgary for the weekend and enjoying a beach day with friends when the young girl ran into trouble in the lake.

Witnesses tell The Columbia Valley Pioneer that Stein-Palmiere swam out to save a 10-year-old girl on Lake Windermere last Friday.

Stein-Palmiere was able to push the girl back to shore but went under himself.

Others rushed to save Jonathan, bringing him back to shore and administered CPR. Jon was brought to hospital where he later passed away.

The girl’s father told the local newspaper that Jonathan was the kindest and caring person in the world.

Others have taken to social media to offer condolences to the family.
