SAVONA (NEWS 1130) — A large wildfire near Kamloops is burning out-of-control.
Skimmers, air tankers, and ground crews are battling the flames, which, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service, are responding well to suppression efforts.
Crews remained on scene overnight to continue their firefighting efforts.
“Currently estimated at a 100 hectares in size and it’s burning in sage and flashy grass fuels,” Fire Information Officer Taylor MacDonald explained Wednesday night. “No structures are threatened at this time.”
The wildfire is believed to have been sparked sometime Wednesday afternoon, and is believed to be human-caused.

Gusty and unpredictable winds proved to be a challenge at one point on Wednesday, MacDonald added.
“We did experience some hot and dry weather this week, so our fuels may have dried up through that way, so that may be what made this fire burn through this flashy grass fuel,” she said.
The fire caused some power outages and a temporary closure of Highway 1 near Savona for a few hours. The route has since reopened.
