Belcarra mayor raises concerns as organizers of wild house party in Anmore plan next bash

BELCARRA (NEWS 1130) – Plans for a huge party in Belcarra are not sitting well with the community’s mayor.

This comes as the organizer of a huge bash in Anmore last weekend says he plans to host the next one in the small village.

The organizer is moving ahead with plans for another party at a home on Belcarra’s Marine Avenue, with talks of yachts and even a monster truck at the gathering.

“A legal party, I have no concern about whatsoever,” Mayor Neil Belenkie told NEWS 1130, adding he’s spoken with those behind the party. “It’s protecting from the illegal activities that are immensely unsafe and unfair to residents as a result. Late-night noise, the risk of drug overdoses, collateral damage, garbage, parking.”

A massive house party in the village of Anmore last weekend seemed to feature everything like exotic cars, helicopters, alcohol and drugs, but not the favour of neighbours and the town’s government.

Police had said officers received at least two complaints as a result of that party — which left Anmore’s mayor furious and vowing to never let something similar happen again.

Mayor Jon McEwen told NEWS 1130 cars were racing up and down a quiet residential street, and helicopters were even taking off and landing in the backyard of the large mansion.

“We are absolutely appalled at what went on,” McEwen said. “Apparently there was excessive alcohol consumption, there was nudity, there was drug use going on.”

The Sasamat Fire Department was called to the party in Anmore, but is also responsible for Belcarra. The department has concerns about the narrow roads and potential safety issues there.

Belenkie said he’s not necessarily for an all-out ban, but believes the community probably isn’t the best choice for a big party, and wants those who plan to attend to know that.

“If they’re going to hold it here, they manage their expectations because the resources aren’t here for safety and for services, the access isn’t here (for) monster trucks, or boats, or otherwise — it’s much more limited than I think they recognize that it actually is,” Belenkie added.

Belcarra’s council is expected to discuss the issue at its next meeting on Monday.
