VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) – A Victoria mother fighting lung cancer has been told she may only have a year to live, but her community is not giving up.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Keri Coles, a 41-year-old with a young daughter.
In just two days of the page being live, over $15,000 has already been pledged. The goal is to raise $50,000 for Coles and her family.
“My oncologist said the average life expectancy for people in my condition is six months without treatment and 1.5 years with treatment. There is a small 10 per cent chance of responding well to treatment and surviving five years and beyond. That is obviously what I am shooting for,” Coles writes on her GoFundMe page.
The non-smoker had been planning of moving to Denmark to pursue a Master’s degree, but this is now on hold.
Editor’s note: The article has been corrected to reflect Coles’ daughter is 11 years old and not two years old.
