SPCA looking for owner of abandoned dog and nine puppies in the Cariboo

By

CARIBOO (NEWS 1130) – The BC SPCA is asking for the public’s help finding the owner of a dog and her nine puppies, who were abandoned at a garbage dump in a sealed box last week in the Cariboo.

The dog, who SPCA staff have named Casey, was found with her puppies at the Puntzi Lake Landfill in a sealed box on June 5.

The dogs were taken to a local veterinarian and are doing well, though staff say Casey is a bit thin. She’s very focused on caring for her puppies and is timid but sweet.

The SPCA say Casey looks to be about a year old, is a border collie, husky mix, and has five male and four female puppies who are around a week old. The puppies will be ready for adoption when they hit seven weeks, but until then will be in the care of the Quesnel and District SPCA.

The SPCA is asking for donations of puppy pads, teething toys and small collars for the family.

Abandoning animals is against the law, and charges could be laid. Anyone with information is asked to call the BC SPCA’s toll-free hotline at 1-855-622-7722.
