TORONTO (NEWS 1130) — The rise of the Raptors has also broken barriers for two Canadian commentators.
Parminder Singh and Preet Ran-dhawa have been brought in to call games in Punjabi for the NBA — the first time in Canada in 10 years.
The response has been overwhelmingly positive — and Singh hopes this could become the norm.
“Fans are gravitating toward this, there is a market for it, and it seems we are able to communicate that message of the NBA to an audience they would not be able to tap into,” he says.
The two started covering the Eastern Conference finals through to this series against the Warriors.
Their play-by-play has aired on TV, through digital streaming and in several South Asian countries.
