Two dead in Osoyoos Lake boat crash

OSOYOOS (NEWS 1130) – Two people are dead following a boat crash on Osoyoos Lake this past weekend.

The two victims have been identified as a 35-year-old man from Kamloops and a 36-year-old man from Maple Ridge. Mounties say an underwater recovery team found the men’s bodies shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, a day after two power boats collided.

Witnesses have said one boat “t-boned” the other around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, before both vessels sunk quickly.

Three people who survived the crash were sent to hospital after being rescued by other boaters. Two of them suffered critical injuries, while the third person is described as being in stable condition. A search for the two other people aboard the second power boat was underway through the weekend.

There’s no word on what caused the two boats to collide, but the RCMP says marine analysts who specialize in these types of investigations are working to figure that out.

Mounties say they’re in the process of trying to get both boats out of the water.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen the crash or seen the boats prior to it to call 250-495-7236. Mounties are also looking for security cameras or other recording devices that overlook the lake.
