CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Many of the 4,400 people still out of their homes because of wildfires in northern Alberta are being allowed back in.
Residents from Bigstone Cree Nation and Wabasca-Desmarais will be allowed to go home as long as conditions remain the same.
Officials say cooler weather continues to make it easier for crews battling the fires.
The Chuckegg Creek fire burning near High Level is still the largest in the province at about 2,670 square kilometres in size.
Several other fires are also still burning out of control across northern Alberta.
About 900 evacuees from Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement, where homes were lost, the hamlet of Sandy Lake and Chipewyan Lake Village are still under an evacuation order.
