Fundraising campaign to restore White Rock Pier gaining steam

WHITE ROCK (NEWS 1130) — It will still be a while before the White Rock Pier is fully repaired after last year’s windstorm, but the group Friends of the Pier continue to raise cash to help that effort.

Group chair Bob Bezubiak is pleased to see that 100 personalized, engraved pier ‘planks’ have been sold so far at $1,000 each. He says they didn’t know the fundraiser would go, but the interest is still on the rise.

“There are a lot of opportunities for people to participate. Some companies, the staff are pulling together raising funds in order that they can buy a pier,” he says. “We know that there’s been some block parties planned as a fundraiser to help buy a pier, so it’s a great community event I think for a lot of people.”

While the insurance will repair the damaged part of the pier, it won’t cover all of the repairs that are needed.

“We have to now replace the rest of the pier, and that’s where the big ticket items are going to cost, and that’s where we need the big funds for the restoration of the rest of the pier,” he says.

The group hopes to move 1300 planks in all, and raise $2 million to help with the repair costs.
