Driver lost control prior to deadly pedestrian-involved collision in Burnaby: RCMP

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – It’s believed the driver of a vehicle that crashed into and killed a pedestrian along Lougheed Highway in Burnaby on June 7th lost control prior to the incident.
Mounties were called to the area of Lougheed Highway between Madison and Gilmore avenues just before 9:00 p.m. on Friday for reports of a collision.
The multi-car crash shut down the route for a “significant amount of time,” and sent two other people to hospitals.
The pedestrian, who Mounties say was a 69-year-old woman, was killed when the driver of a BMW involved in the crash lost control, sending into her. The driver was also taken to hospital with life threatening injuries.
Meantime, the Burnaby RCMP says an 83-year-old woman was killed in a collision the same day at the intersection of Kingsway and Nelson Avenue.
Mounties say it looks like the female driver suffered a “medical incident” while behind the wheel, causing her car to speed up, hit the median, and flip over into oncoming traffic.
That multi-vehicle crash also sent two others to hospital. Several vehicles were involved, Mounties said at the time.
“It appeared there were up to eight vehicles involved,” Corporal Daniela Panesar with Burnaby RCMP said.
