BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – Mounties say they have identified the driver and semi believed to have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run last week, that left a 71-year-old pedestrian dead in Burnaby.

The Burnaby RCMP says officers have spoken with the driver, and that they are cooperating with the investigation.

No charges have been laid.

On June 6, Mounties were called to the area of Marine Way and Boundary Road for reports a 71-year-old man had been hit by a vehicle.

Witnesses had said they saw a truck pulling a dark red shipping container stop briefly after the collision, then continue on toward New Westminster.

According to witnesses, Mounties say the 71-year-old who was struck did not appear to be in a marked crosswalk at the time.

The senior was declared dead at the scene.
