Lug nut loosener on the loose in Burnaby

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — Mounties in Burnaby are asking you to check your tires before you head out for a drive.

Over the past day or so, Burnaby RCMP says there have been two reports of drivers who noticed the lug nuts on their vehicle’s wheels were loosened.

In one case, a wheel came off while someone was actually driving, but nobody was injured.

Both of these incidents could have had serious consequences and it’s a good reminder for drivers to always ensure vehicles are safe to drive, Cpl. Daniela Panesar says in a release. While we are unsure if these incidents are linked, we are asking that drivers make sure to check their wheels before driving to ensure wheel lug nuts have not been loosened.

Police ask if you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles to give them a call.

Late last month, Mounties in the Okanagan warned of similar reports in the West Kelowna area.
