Crime Stoppers announces safety precautions for the home

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Just because the sun is out longer doesn’t mean you should forget to take safety precautions at home to ensure your safety during the night.

Executive Director Linda Annis of Crime Stoppers wants people to remember some simple safety precautions and to incorporate them into a nightly routine.

“Ensure that the windows on your car and your doors are locked. Bikes are oftentimes left out cause kids are out playing late in the evening and feel that it’s safe,” says Annis. “As well as ladders and garden equipment, they should all be locked and put away for the evening.”

Making sure items in your car are not visible, such as garage door openers or valuables is also important, adds Annis.

These recommendations are part of a nine-point safety precaution list Crime Stoppers is announcing for people to check off each night around 9 p.m.

“We should make sure before we go to bed that the outside garage door are locked, but also the leading into your house is locked as well,” says Annis.
