NEWS 1130 cruises Summer Solstice weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The first weekend of summer was turbo-charged with community events all around the Lower Mainland.

I started my weekend with a blast of fitness on Grouse Mountain, taste-testing some of the obstacles people will have to endure during the Spartan Race course in Whistler on September 14. NEWS 1130 listeners can save 20 per cent on race entry by registering HERE and using the promo code SPARTANBC.

Vancouver, don’t miss the chance to see the Arts Club Theatre Company’s summer smash hit Mom’s The Word: Nest 1/2 Empty. This laugh-out-loud theatre production is a must see for all generations! I brought my Mom and it was a show that had us in stitches. It’s on now until July 20 at the Granville Island Stage. It’s hilarious!!

Lynn Valley Day, hosted by the Lynn Valley Lions Club, has been going strong since 1912 – that’s over a century of community fun and commitment with a family-oriented day that happens every year on the North Shore.

Championship Sunday at the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival included over 200 teams working together in sync for the winning title. Witnessing these international teams and their contagious team spirit was very inspiring, especially team D-Fyance, the only D-category age group in the world. These ladies from Fort Langley show us that life after 70 can still be fit and fun if you choose an active lifestyle.

Year after year, the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival draws in the crowds, offering over 150 shows and concerts for people to enjoy. Free and ticketed events run through July 1 with big name headliners this year including The Roots and Herbie Hancock. Book your tickets early at www.coastaljazz.ca.

See you next weekend for more summer fun in the city!
