SURREY (NEWS 1130) — A Surrey City Councillor was nearly thrown out of council tonight after arguing for several minutes with the Mayor.
Minutes into the meeting at City Council, Coun. Stephen Pettigrew attempted to bring up a point of information during the opening minutes of the meeting.

"Councillor Pettigrew, if I have to I will ask you to leave the council chambers. You're interrupting this meeting and we are not going to put up with it. However, Mayor Doug McCallum turned down the request, prompting Pettigrew to stand up, and remain standing as the two butted heads.
“Councillor Pettigrew, if I have to I will ask you to leave these council chambers. You’re interrupting this meeting and we are not going to put up with it,” Mayor Doug McCallum said.
“I am going to rule you out of order, and please sit down, or I will ask you to leave. You’re interrupting this council meeting.”

Eventually tempers cooled down, and council ended up voting to decommission the North Surrey Recreation Centre.
The arena located near City Hall will relocate two ice sheets and sports programming to a new centre set to open in September.
