VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Joffre Lakes Provincial Park is becoming a more popular place to visit every year, and the province is making changes to accommodate visitors.
The parking lots at Joffre Lakes are being expanded, which will almost double the capacity from 250 vehicles to 450. The new spots will increase capacity to about 1,350 people a day.
There will also be a renewed focus on towing cars and trucks that are illegally parked along Highway 99, and a shuttle service from Duffey Lake Park parking lot to the Joffre trail head.
Two First Nations stewards will also work with park rangers to preserve the natural and Indigenous cultural values of the park.
Last year, 183,000 people visited the park, which is located 35 km east of Pemberton. The park has seen a 168 per cent increase in visitors since 2010.
