A large plume of smoke could be seen and smelled as far away as Steveston

LADNER (NEWS 1130) — A fire in Ladner sent a giant cloud of smoke into the sky Wednesday evening.

It seems a barn was on fire near 46A Street and 36 Avenue.

A witness told NEWS 1130 he could see large plumes of black smoke from 46a Street and 36 Avenue.

“From where I’m standing, about a couple hundred yards away, you can definitely see the orange glow of some flames, and huge, massive plume of smoke filling the sky,” he said.

He says it seems crews are struggling to contain the fire.

“Fire crews appear to be working to try and contain this blaze, but they’re having no luck,” he says.

Others calling into NEWS 1130 said they could see and smell the smoke as far away as Steveston.

Emergency crews were blocking off the road, and BC Hydro is on the scene trying to shut off power at the farm Wednesday evening.
