Repairs to Queen of Coquitlam causing longer wait times along Sunshine Coast

HORSESHOE BAY (NEWS 1130) – If your long weekend plans include heading to the Sunshine Coast, you may encounter crowds with the Queen of Coquitlam out of service.

Chris Nicholls is executive director of the Gibsons and District Chamber of Commerce and says the disruption may have a small impact on the number of people that head there.

However, he adds many people who travel between the Horseshoe Bay and Langdale Terminals are used to waiting.

“The regular sailings on Queen of Surrey being normally full and sometimes overload,” says Nicholls. “You might say people coming here are used to the one-sailing waits.”

He says if anyone changes their schedules, it will be few in number.

“They’ll continue and if they’re able to adjust either into Saturday or wait until the biggest crush is down on Sunday.”

BC Ferries has increased the number of sailings for some of their other vessels as well as adding three water taxis for walk-ons that are using the schedule of the Queen of Coquitlam.

Nicholls calls these moves positive, but would still like to see hourly service on the route.
