Our Lady Peace, Bif Naked, a rodeo and fireworks: get ready for Canada Day in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — It’s being billed as the largest Canada Day celebration in Western Canada — and it’s taking place in Surrey tomorrow.

Up to 100,000 people are expected to show up for the free event. Festivities boast a couple stages, including headlining acts Our Lady Peace and Bif Naked. New this year, there’s a new rodeo area, complete with a mechanical bull, games, an inflatable corn maze, and country music acts all day until 6 p.m.

Tanya Wenngatz with the City of Surrey says she’s getting excited for the events as preparations get underway Sunday morning.

“We’ve got all the vendors loading in, and the food trucks loading in, a lot of activity happening on site right now,” she says. “It’s a totally free event, which is really something special to offer.

“It’s going to be really exciting.”

And the end of the night will end with a bang. Fireworks cap off the evening at 10:30 p.m.

“It’s something that people definitely come down just to see. It’s pretty exciting,” she says. “We’re anticipating it to be a good one, especially with the weather, it’s not supposed to rain and we’re set to go for the fireworks.”

The events get underway starting at 10 a.m. at Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheater.
