Vancouver police make plea for information in assault of 44-year-old man

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Police in Vancouver are making a desperate appeal for information that could lead to an arrest after a 44-year-old man, who uses a motorized wheelchair, was assaulted.

Just before 8 a.m, the man was found in the underground parking lot of an apartment building around Cecil Street and Kingsway which is close to 41st Avenue in the Collingwood neighbourhood. He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

Sergeant Jason Robillard can’t say if just one person was behind this attack. “We’re not sure. This one, we’re really asking for the public to come forward, we’re even looking for anybody that may have dashcam video, our investigators would like to speak to them. We’re also looking for anybody who may have been driving in the area between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m.”

Robillard can’t say if the man lives in the apartment building where officers have been combing for evidence. “We’re working with what we have. We’re working backwards to try and put all the pieces together and establish a timeline and establish a clear motive as to what happened here.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604.717.2541 or CrimeStoppers at 1.800.222.8477 (TIPS).

“Sometimes people feel the information they have is irrelevant or too small when in fact that information can be very helpful to investigators. Even if you have anything about this incident and you want to let us know, even if you think it’s small, it could be a big piece, so please give us a call.”
