Dog and owner reunited after brazen Vancouver theft

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) — A normal evening for a Vancouver man and his beloved dog Suzie turned into a nightmare after they stopped for a treat Thursday–but the nightmare is over.

Thanks to the power of social media the two were reunited less than 24-hours later.

“We have found Suzie! Suzie has been found!” her ecstatic owner Mario Bessette says.

Apparently, someone spotted Suzie on the street.

“It’s not the police who found my dog. It’s the social media people,” Bessette explains.

He says he will never let Suzie out of his sight again and that he’s treating her to a steak dinner tonight in honour of her return.

“I’m pretty much at peace now.”

Thursday theft caught on camera

Mario Bessette tied Suzie up outside of the McDonald’s at Main and Terminal while he went inside to buy ice creams for himself and his furry friend.

Bessette was keeping an eye on Suzie from his place in line. All of a sudden, he says, she was gone.

“I didn’t even pick up my order. I just left. I started to scream out there. I thought she had just run away.”

The apparent theft happened just after 10 p.m. Surveillance video appears to show a woman peering into the window before grabbing Suzie’s leash and leaving.

“How can somebody take a life away from somebody like this. She’s my love, my life. She’s everything.”

He says he barely slept Thursday night after filing a police report.
