VICTORIA (NEWS 1130) – The 26th annual Victoria Pride Parade took place Sunday, with thousands of people expected to have attend the culmination of Pride Week festivities on the Island.

The parade started at 11 a.m. at Pandora and Government, and was expected to end at MacDonald Park at around 1:30 p.m.

The parade was open to everyone, and organizers expected record numbers of attendees. The final stop on the route, MacDonald Park, is the site of the Pride Festival, an annual queer-themed celebration with live music, food trucks, a beer garden and a kids camp.

Like the marches in Vancouver and Toronto, uniformed police officers are not allowed to participate in the parade.

Vancouver’s parade takes place in August.
