Florida principal’s Holocaust remarks criticized

BOCA RATON, Fla. — A Florida high school principal is under fire for saying that “not everyone believes the Holocaust happened.”

The Palm Beach Post reports that Spanish River High School principal Willam Latson wrote the email last year to a student’s mother who inquired if the Holocaust was taught. The Post said it obtained a copy of the email exchange.

The principal responded that while the mother had her beliefs, not all parents shared them.

In a statement, Latson apologized, saying his email was not representative of his beliefs or regard for fact.

The newspaper quotes the student’s mother as saying she doesn’t doubt Latson knows the Holocaust is real. She says she fears he didn’t want to confront parents who disagree.

The school is in Boca Raton, which has a large Jewish population.
