Most Canadians haven’t been off the grid in the last year, survey finds

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It seems Canadians are having trouble disconnecting from the Internet. A report from the Canadian Internet Registration Authority finds most of us haven’t been off the grid in the last year.

More than eight in 10 surveyed had not spent more than one week offline, and only one in five had disconnected for even eight consecutive hours.

The report also finds three quarters of Canadians surf the Internet while watching TV and close to half admit to using their mobile device in the bathroom – and even more were too embarrassed to say.

And the bathroom isn’t the only part of our lives that’s been forever changed by the Internet. 10 per cent of those surveyed said they found their spouse online, and nine per cent said they completed their education online.
