Women’s soft ball team at Canada Cup tournament in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS 1130) — Softball players from around the world are in Surrey this week for the Canada Cup.

And later this summer, Canada will be trying to qualify for the Olympics in women’s softball.

Danielle Lawrie, who pitches for the Canadian National Team, says it’s always a treat to play at Softball City.

“We’re surrounded by the trees — I love that. I feel like we’re in the movie Jurassic Park, because we just have the trees everywhere and it’s so pretty. It just shows what the Pacific Northwest is all about,” she says.

She says she’s excited to play in front of the home crowd.

“This a tournament that a lot of us have been playing in for a long, long time, so it gives you those extra game feels of being proud to be Canadian, wear this jersey, and it’s an exciting time for sure,” she says.

The Canada Cup features teams from around the world. It wraps up on Sunday with the championship games.
