NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A family is being praised for saving the life of a man in North Vancouver after he came close to drowning at Twin Falls near Lynn Canyon.
Assistant Fire Chief Jeremy Duncan says the man, in his 20s, was pulled from the water by a married couple after he went under.
He was unconscious and not breathing, so the husband and wife went into action.
“They started performing bystander CPR, and luckily they did because I don’t think the outcome would have been the same,” says Duncan.

Paramedic crews took over when they arrived and the man regained consciousness. BC Ambulance took him to hospital where additional fluid was removed from his lungs.
“A very lucky day for that man, to be honest,” says Duncan. “He hadn’t jumped. He had just gone for a swim in the river.”
The family who performed the initial rescue did not leave any personal information.

Duncan says he would like to thank them for a “job well done.”
He adds that this is an example of why knowing CPR is a good skill for anyone to have.
“The early intervention is definitely the key to saving lives.”
