Dump truck driver killed in collision on Highway 1 near Revelstoke

REVELSTOKE (NEWS 1130) – The driver of a dump truck has been killed in a collision after they lost control of their vehicle on Highway 1, just east of Revelstoke.

The RCMP says it happened at around 11:30 on Wednesday morning near Canyon Hot Springs, when a commercial dump truck driver collided with several other vehicles and was ejected, dying as a result of the crash.

“According to information from the scene, it was raining heavily at the time,” says RCMP Corporal Mike Halskov. “Trans Canada East Traffic Services, the Commercial Vehicle and Safety Enforcement Officers and the BC Coroners Service are continuing to investigate the cause of this collision and nothing has been ruled out at this early stage.”

Halskov says it’s not yet clear how many people were involved.

“We don’t have any other reports of fatalities at this time and injuries to the other vehicle occupants are not known,” he says.

Highway 1 was closed in both directions as police investigated for a number of hours on Wednesday afternoon. It reopened before 5 p.m.
