A first for Delta: Snowbirds to take to the skies at Boundary Bay Airshow

DELTA (NEWS 1130) – Pilots and aviation enthusiasts are getting ready for Saturday’s Boundary Bay Airshow, which will feature the Canadian Forces Snowbirds for the first time, ever.

“That’s going to be something that I’m so looking forward to, and bringing the event to the members of the public here, enjoying the snowbirds … all at no cost,” Delta Mayor George Harvie says.

Harvie notes it’s not easy to secure the Snowbirds, but says the city was able to do so thanks to a team effort.

“It’s going to be a historic first for Delta.”

People can expect to see flight formations which Harvie says gave him “heart palpitations” when they flew over his community on Thursday.

The event is free to attend, and Harvie expects a large crowd this weekend, as has been the case in years past.

“Last year we had up to 18,000, so with the Snowbirds we’re expecting even more. We’re anticipating 20,000,” he says. “What we need to do is to ensure that people arrive early.”

Harvie notes there will be signage up to help people find buses from the designated parking areas.

“We have a command centre set up in case there is a need for one, there’s so much planning that goes into it,” he says.

The air show kicks off at noon at the Boundary Bay Airport.
