Man charged in connection with death of long-time Vancouver businessman

A former employee has been charged with second degree murder in the death of a well-known Vancouver businessman. Andrea Macpherson reports.

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A 36-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with the June killing of a long-time businessman in Vancouver.

John Leslie McIver, who was a staple in the city’s retail industry, was found dead inside his store — McIver’s Appliance Service and Sales Store — the morning of June 26.

“At this point we’re not releasing the exact nature of the relationship simply to protect the integrity of the investigation, and out of respect for the ongoing court process,” Cst. Steve Addison says.

Brian Roger Holt has been charged with second-degree murder. He remains in custody.

The incident appears to be targeted, but police are not releasing any other details about the case.

Police are not releasing any details about a possible motive.

“That’s, again, information that we’re not going to be releasing at this point,” Addison says. “The matter is before the courts, and just out of respect for the court process as well as the integrity of the investigation, I’m not in a position to discuss any specific details about the investigation.”
