Winning Lotto Max ticket for $60-million jackpot sold in Richmond

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) — If you bought a lottery ticket in Richmond last night, you might have won the biggest lottery prize ever in B.C.

The $60-million ticket bought Friday night matched all seven numbers of Friday’s Lotto Max draw. The odds of winning the jackpot are about one in 33.3 million.

Lara Gerrits with the British Columbia Lottery Corporation says now they’re waiting for the winner to come forward.

“There’s always a lot of anticipation and we call it ‘jackpot fever’ in the office, when we see the jackpot starting to climb,” she sas. “And (we were) so excited to see that last night the winner was maybe from B.C.”

No winning ticket for Friday night’s $50 million Lotto Max jackpot

She says she’s excited to meet the person and hear the story of how they plan on spending the winnings.

“I love to hear the stories of how the winner plans to spend such a life-changing amount of money,” she says. “I mean, $60-million, it’s almost hard to wrap your head around what to do with that amount of money, so we’re really excited.”

Before yesterday, the biggest wins in the province were $50 million. Three people won this prize, most recently in 2016.

The person with the winning ticket has 52 weeks from the draw date on the ticket to come forward to claim the prize.

The next Lotto Max draw will be on July 30 with a $16-million jackpot.
