WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It’s not often someone is seen travelling the wrong way on the Lions Gate Bridge, but that’s what one driver caught on his dash-cam.
The video was taken shortly before 3 p.m. on July 26 and shows an SUV with Alberta licence plates in a lane marked with a red X on the indicator.
Cst. Kevin Goodmurphy with the West Vancouver Police says he doesn’t believe it happens often.
“Definitely concerning, especially given how far it appears the driver has travelled across the bridge,” says Goodmurphy. “So absolutely, something that’s concerning to us.”

He says he reviewed the video where it was posted online. However, he doesn’t believe the incident was reported to police.
“This isn’t something that reoccurs enough that we would have it on our radar as far as needing to deal with a greater issue,” says Goodmurphy. “This is hopefully the exception to the normal flow of traffic and this isn’t happening too often because it is quite risky driving given what I saw in this video clip.”
He adds if drivers see risky behaviour, providing a licence plate number helps police track down drivers in order to have a conversation with them.
