Day 2 of Celebration of Light goes off ‘without any issue’: VPD

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – It was another night of well-behaved crowds for the Celebration of Light fireworks show in Vancouver on Wednesday.

Vancouver police estimate more than 136,000 people took to the waterfront to take in the spectacle — a smaller crowd compared to the first day of the festival last weekend.

However, the VPD says it looks like more people took to the water to watch this show this time around.

“Over 350 vessels just in front of English Bay there, so we want to remind everybody to make sure you’re safe when you’re on the boats,” Sgt. Jason Robillard says.

Team India was the first of three to take to the skies on Saturday, July 27th. Team Croatia will wrap up the competition this coming Saturday, August 3rd.

Robillard is once again hoping the evening will be a safe, fun event with a family atmosphere.

“Typically, we have this well-planned out from a policing perspective. So we want everybody to feel safe, and public safety remains our priority for the Celebration of Light.”

If you plan to take in the final show, Robillard is reminding you to expect large crowds as well as road closures.

“If you run into an issue or you feel unsafe at any time, we have a lot of police officers down there that are easily recognizable in fluorescent vests,” he adds.
