New wildfire on Sunshine Coast north of Sechelt

SECHELT (NEWS 1130) — A new wildfire north of Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast has crews busy.

The fire was discovered yesterday afternoon and is estimated at 3.8 hectares in size.

Fire Information Officer Jeanne Larsen of the BC Wildfire Service says there is no indication of cause yet.

“We have 15 initial attack personnel, we have a forest officer, we have 17 people from BC Wildfire Service unit crew,” she says.

A couple of helicopters and two water tenders are also working to put out the fire.

Larsen says at last report, it was 25 per cent contained.
