One person dead in late-night crash in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – One person has died in a late-night crash in Surrey’s Guildford neighbourhood.

Mounties say it happened around 11:00 p.m. on 104 Avenue between 156th and 160th streets.

“Our members attended and located a black pick-up truck on its side up against a tree in the front yard of a house at that location,” Sgt. Duane Honeyman with the Surrey RCMP says. “Sadly, a lone occupant was located deceased inside the vehicle.”

It’s unclear what caused the crash, and Honeyman says it’s hard to say if the person was trapped inside, per reports from the scene.

“Obviously our investigators will be looking into every possibility, including reviewing city traffic cameras in the area to see is speed a factor, or is there any other issue involved with the collision,” he explains.

Traffic westbound on 104 Avenue was shut down at 160th, and eastbound traffic was closed at 156th. The roads have since reopened.

It’s not clear what may have caused the crash, and the RCMP is asking anyone who was in the area to come forward.

“Anybody who was walking by or obviously was driving by and may or may not have dashcam video, obviously our investigators would be very grateful for that information to try and piece together what happened prior to this collision occurring,” Honeyman adds.
