Odlum Brown VanOpen kicks off today, bringing tennis stars to West Van

WEST VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – On the heels of Bianca Andreescu’s win at the Rogers Cup, tennis fans are in West Vancouver today as the Odlum Brown VanOpen gets underway.

It’s the biggest tennis tournament in Western Canada, and spokesperson Brian Wiebe says Sunday’s Canadian win only helps.

“I think that is, overall, good for the sport,” he says. “We anticipate being sold out every day this year – we sold out last year. And I think that’s only because of the interest in tennis itself.”

Canadian Eugenie Bouchard is among the stars participating.

“Genie’s popularity speaks for herself, as she attracts a crowd wherever she goes,” Wiebe says.

The tournament, which takes place at Hollyburn Country Club, runs until Sunday.
