PNE Fair offers 2-for-1 Friday entry to transit riders

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – People who want to take in the PNE Fair over the next two weeks can avoid the hassle of parking and enjoy a discount on entry fees if they take transit on Fridays.

Fair-goers who show their Compass Card and other Compass fare products at the PNE Fair Gate on Fridays, Aug. 23 and 30 can receive a 2-for-1 admission for adults and seniors.

“I think it’s a positive message to get out and it’s a positive step,” Transit Police Chief Dave Jones said. “As transit improves and becomes more reliable and dependable, the more people we can get to use it, then the aspects of congestion around the Fair at this time and the struggle to find parking are hopefully eased.”

Transit Police won’t be adding officers to the area like they would for the Celebration of Light, Jones said.

The grounds are accessible by transit with a number of buses stopping along Hastings Street and Renfrew Street, including the #16 PNE Special from 29th Avenue Station and the #210 PNE Special from Phibbs exchange in North Vancouver. The PNE also offers a free bike valet service inside the Red Gate at the corner of Hastings and Renfrew.

The PNE Fair opens its gates tomorrow at 11 a.m.
