TransLink rolling out service increases on SkyTrain, SeaBus and bus routes this fall

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) — Just in time for the back to school rush, TransLink is getting ready to increase its SkyTrain, bus and SeaBus services — and for the first time, all at once.

The change includes 24 new SkyTrain cars in service (six trains), 40,000 more hours for bus service, and 10-minute sailings during peak time trips on the SeaBus.

This all starts September 3rd, and the funding for it comes from all three levels of Canadian government. And starting October, there will be new double-decker buses.

“We know that the first week of September is the busiest week of the year for commuters,” TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond said in a press release. “That’s why we’ve timed these increases to do our part in reducing congestion. Whether it’s SkyTrain, bus or SeaBus, these changes will help reduce wait-times for our customers all across the region.”

Burnaby North-Seymour Terry Beach said he was pleased to add transit to address the growing number of people taking transit in Metro Vancouver.

“Investing in public transit is essential to creating strong sustainable communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. This service increase will allow residents to spend less time commuting and more quality time with their loved ones,” he said in a statement.
