Grass fire burning out of control near Cache Creek

CACHE CREEK (NEWS 1130) — A grass fire is now burning out of control about 16 kilometres outside of Cache Creek.

The fire is about 40 hectares in size, or about the size of 40 soccer fields.

Fire Information Officer Madison Smith says crews are trying to get it under control.

“We currently have 22 BC Wildfire personnel on site, and they were supported earlier by air tankers,” she says. “They are working to control the fire at this time.”

The BC Wildfire Service isn’t sure yet what caused it.

For now, no homes or other buildings are threatened by the fire.
