BC Ferries expects busy long weekend

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – With the last long weekend of summer now upon us, you may be trying to take advantage of every minute with one last vacation.

Astrid Braunschmidt from BC Ferries says on Friday and through the long weekend are generally very popular.

“Sometimes actually the weather is a factor in travel plans for this long weekend, so it’s hard to say whether it will be busier on the Friday afternoon compared to the Sunday or Monday,” she says.

She adds many families rush back to the Mainland before school starts next week.

“Heading into Sunday and Monday, that’s often when we see families returning home, and there’s sometimes a fair amount of traffic on the Tuesday morning as well,” she says, adding it’s a good idea to reserve a spot if you can and give yourself extra time of about 45 to 60 minutes before the sailing time.

Braunschmidt says in addition to the usual hourly sailings between Vancouver and Victoria, there are a few extra times, including a midnight run from Swartz Bay in Victoria Friday, and some 10 p.m. sailings on Monday.
